Amazing & Awesome

Who would willingly "sign up" to swim in open water 1/2 mile, bike 15 miles, much of which was uphill and then run a 5k, also alot of it being uphill? Marilyn, Jeremy, Kristi and Noelle and about 30 other people who signed up for the Hillman Triathlon that was held just north of Blanding this past weekend did. It was an amazing feat. They all did awesome!!

Getting ready for the swim

Out in the water

No one else had as cute of a cheering section as Marilyn, Jeremy, Kristi and Noelle did

The bikers begin to arrive and then take off on the run

Finishing up the race!

Way to go, Jamie!

The adventures at 4-H Horse Camp!!!

How many grandmas are lucky enough to get to go to Horse Camp?? Kristi and I decided to split the time at camp and I got to go with Carmryn the first day. The camping spot was at the beginning of the "Wagon Wheel" trail.

We took the horses and the trailer up on Thursday afternoon (July 16th). Jed, Kristi, Camryn and I all set up camp. Jed and Kristi went back to town and left Camryn and I to have many adventures! First of all, we were told by Curtis and Keri Pugh that they had seen a mother bear and her two cubs very close to our camp. Keri had come upon them when she was out on a walk. It was a little scary for her as mother bears are very protective of their cubs and can be dangerous. She picked up some big rocks in each hand and went behind a tree. After Curtis came, they watched the mother bear kill a baby fawn:(

After riding the horses and eating dinner, everyone enjoyed roasting marshmallows on the fire.

And then there was a lot of singing and playing games until about midnight................

.....which made it hard to wake up on Friday morning.

After breakfast everyone saddled up for a long horse ride on the trails on Blue Mountain. Camryn was all ready to go..........but I realized I had forgotten my hat on the horse trailer. I rode Cody over to get it and just as I reached for it and put it on my head Cody decided to start bucking for some reason.

The bad news was that the hat ended up on the ground.....the good news was that I didn't!!
I decided I didn't need the hat after all. It could just stay there.

Out on the trail!

We stopped for lunch.

After about a five hour ride, we got back to camp uninjured and tired. Cody had been fidgety and prancing the whole day. He worked 10 times as hard as he needed to and had sweat pouring off of him at all times. He walked sideways a lot of the time and when we came to bridges that crossed over streams it became a little tricky because he didn't fit on the bridge sideways. But overall, the ride was fun. We were on trails on the mountain. We had seen deer and other wildlife.

Some of the kids decided they were hot and needed to cool off. They thought the horse trough looked inviting.

They had to scoot over a little bit when the horses came to get a drink!

Kristi came that afternoon for her turn at camp. Her biggest adventure began in the middle of the night when she heard Cody thrashing around outside. She went out to yell at him and realized that something was wrong. He was on his knees and acting very weird. She went to get help and when they came back he was laying on his side and looked like he was dead!! But he was breathing and got back up soon. They gave him some medicine and he gradually got better. Maybe his hard day had made him sick.....no one knows. He was OK in the morning but needless to say, no one got much sleep. They all went on a short ride and then broke camp and headed home.

Jed and I rode the 4-wheelers from town to the camp spot and helped Kristi and Camryn back to town. Camryn said it was the best weekend of her life!!! Thanks Camryn, for sharing it with grandma!

A fun visit from our Arizona relatives

This past week we had a special treat when Uncle Ernest & Aunt Grace and Jennifer & Eric & their cute kids stopped in overnight on their way to Colorado.
Kristi's and Jeremy's kids and Jen's and Eric's kids had so much fun together....

...and the adults had a great time visiting.

Mike, Dad (Grandpa Halliday) and I drove to the Colorado cabin one of the days that they were all there to visit for part of the day. Spencer and Rani and their family had been there for a couple of days so we got to see them for awhile also.

Where ya been Spencer?

Grandpa Halliday is trying to get these "sleepy heads" moving.

Jennifer, Grandpa & Eric hangin' out at the Colorado cabin.

We visited with Michele the cowgirl.....

.....and Shawn the cowboy

Spencer and Rani and the rest of the Halliday's fixed us lunch.

And then back to Blanding for more partying!!

Camryn took Jakey for a ride on Panda.

It was so fun to get Grandpa Halliday, Uncle Ernest and Aunt Grace together for pictures, meals and visiting.

And the kids loved playing with these cousins that they had not met before.

There is no better place than Blanding on the 4th of July

On the 4th of July weekend, Blanding doubles or triples in size. The town is packed with families and visitors.

Our 4th of July family fun began the day before when we all went to the reservoir.

The guys went on a 4-wheeler ride up on the mountain until the rain poured down on them and they road home as fast as they could go.

A lot of time was spent trying to launch this rocket. Out of about 20 tries, it worked once!!

The 4th began bright and early for some of us as we participated in the 5-K race. It has become a family tradition!

And then, the parade. It was enjoyed by all. It was a great parade for little ole Blanding.

Jensen and Camryn rode horses in the parade.

These are the missionaries:)

Noelle, Trent, Kolton and Stacy played volleyball. (Stacy and Kolton were "fill-ins" when Tyrel had to take care of her baby. Angie Zimmerman was also on the team) They took 2nd in their bracket.

Kristi and Carmyn went to "horse games" at the Stevens'. Very fun--they did relays and games on the horses.

The perfect end to a very fun day. The fireworks were spectacular!!!!
