Labor Day Weekend

Our family looks forward to Labor Day weekend.  We spend the weekend at the Colorado cabin.  All of the family but Deco, Kera and Aleyah were able to meet up at the cabin this year.  We excused Deco and Kera, as Kera was 36 weeks pregnant!!

One of the first activities of the weekend was to go to Ouray and go swimming in the Hot Springs swimming pool there.

After swimming, everyone had worked up a good appetite.

And then the kids all had enough energy to play for awhile.

That energy ran out as we headed back to the cabin.

There was plenty of time left to work on projects.........

                     ........and ride the horses...................

                   ..........and catch a ground squirrel......................
Luckily, this little guy escaped his leash as soon as he was put down on the ground!!

                      ...............and ride the 4-wheelers...................

.....and even help Justin move some cows on down the road.

Love, love, love these kinds of weekends with the family!!!!

San Juan County Fair Time

Summertime in Blanding brings many adventures, not the least of which is the opportunity to raise animals for 4-H.  The kids have the opportunity to feed, walk and groom their animals to get them ready to sell at the San Juan County Fair.

Along with a lot of the Ivins gang, Logan, Livvy, Carter and Camryn spend many hours at "The Field" preparing their animals for the fair.

The moms even got in on the fun.

When the weekend of the fair finally arrived, the animals had to be washed, brushed and spiffed up for the show.  Unfortunately, there were disappointments along the way and one of the pigs died and so Carter did not have a pig to show and Logan's pig did not make weight.

But, Livvy was able to prepare her pig for the show.

She did well in the show and her biggest supporters were her brothers watching from the sidelines.

Camryn had a beautiful, red steer and did a great job preparing and showing him.

The animals sold well and this was another successful year at the San Juan County Fair.

After 3 days at the fair, Coy was enjoying a little nap and Mason was just content in his little, blue chair.

These cowboys are preparing to do a little Mutton Busting at the Jr. Rodeo but Maxon and Cohen decided they didn't want to actually go out there and get bucked off of a sheep.  And after Livvy's tears from being bucked off of a calf, they were a little glad they had made that decision.  But, Livvy gets the prize for being the bravest one out of the bunch that night.
