Our trip to Oregon--Part Three

Friday was Jeff and Carol's day. They had chosen to go to the Aquarium in Newport.  We did not make it there until the next day but we did see some fun things.

First we went to see the devils punchbowl, a rock formation where the waves formed a cave, then the roof collapsed creating a "bowl" that creates a blow hole when the tide comes in.  Tam had researched the tides and had it figured down to the minute for the best time for us to be there.  We showed up exactly at the right time but the show was pretty much a disappointment.

Next on their list was the Newport Lighthouse.   We learned that lighthouses on the Oregon coast were more about telling ships where they are along the coast than about keeping them from running aground.  They have lighthouses every 40 or so miles and each has a different pulse and rotation pattern.

We took a tour of the Lighthouse.  Our "tour guide" was quite charming.

The walk to the top was long, and steep.
The view from the top was beautiful.

After the tour and our hike back down the stairs, we took a few minutes for a photo shoot....

And then we went outside to these beautiful views.  The little black dots are surfers!!

We then went into Newport to plan our events for the next day.  We walked along Newport Harbor and look at what we saw on the docks...these lazy sea lions!!

           Another fun day in Oregon!!
