The Cruise--November 3rd - November 18th, 2018

We found out, right at the beginning of the cruise part of our trip, that because of bad weather, we would not be going to the Bahamas, which was disappointing but we knew we were still going to have fun.

The cruise begins! And, that bad weather followed us for a couple of days.  Bad weather means rough water and sea sickness :(. It only lasted a day before we got our sea- legs and overcame the sea sick feeling.

Look at that good looking guy and that beautiful view!!

Day 1 of the cruise:
This was our home away from home for the next 2 weeks.  Pretty cozy!!

And then there is the food!

This is what the inside of the ship looked like.  Beautiful spiral staircases.

And lots of yummy food.

We had 6 days that were sea days but we did not suffer.
And the eating continues.  Too much good food in sight!

And the games we played!  We usually played "5 Crown".
Sometimes we played "Hearts".

Jed enjoying some escargot :)

After our evening meals there was a program.  Some of the programs we saw were:
A magic show, Raegar-"A little bit country, a little bit rock & roll", a Veterans Day Remembrance,
John Bressler-Piano, singing, comedian, Darren Dowler-Singer, impressionist,
Johnny Loquesto-comedian.
So much fun.

Like every other morning on the cruise, we got up early and walked (and sometimes jogged)
laps on the deck of the ship. We had to do something to counter act all that food we were eating!
This morning, the 5th day on the cruise, there was a beautiful
sunrise and a rainbow.

Day 6, 7, & 8 were more sea days.
Most mornings found us out on the deck walking again.
Mike joined us on some of the early morning walks.
These sea days were so relaxing and we loved them.

On November 11 it was our 9th day of the cruise.
We arrived on the shores of Boston  and
got to spend the day exploring the city.

That's a squirrel in the park!

We paid for a trolley to take us around to historic sites and
then we got off and walked the "Freedom Trail".
It was very interesting.
A bit of information about the Freedom Trail:
The Freedom Trail is a unique collection of museums, c
churches, meeting houses, burying grounds, parks, a ship,
and historic markers that tell the story of the
American Revolution and beyond.

Here's a link that tells you about the sites along the Freedom Trail.

We had a lot of fun in Boston but were happy to get back to the ship and the food!!

We traveled all night and part of the next day to get to New York City.
We passed by the Statue of Liberty as we arrived and then walked to Time Square
and took a bus to The Empire State Building and then walked back to the ship.

Tuesday, Nov. 13th was a very eventful day in New York City.  It was raining hard when we left the ship. We planned to go to the 9/11 Memorial Museum. We had bought very expensive bus passes the day before and found out the closest bus stop was 2 miles away.  We took off walking, in the rain.  After walking for an hour we got to the bus stop.  We waited for 35 minutes with no bus in sight.  We gave up and walked to a subway stop.  We rode to a stop that put us close to the Memorial Museum.  We spent 2 1/2 hours there.  It was very touching and educational.

This is the Manhattan New York temple.  So interesting.
Here is a bit of information about the temple:

We walked by the temple and then walked to Central Park and then over 2 miles back to the ship.
We had tired feet and wet clothes but had a fun, eventful day in New York City.

November 14th was a sea day.  It was also day 12 of our cruise.  It was a good day to relax, take naps and eat a lot of food.

Day 13 of the cruise, November 15th was our day to spend in Bermuda.  We Took a ferry to Hamilton and walked around the town.  We visited a cathedral and we walked to the top of a spiral staircase-beautiful!
We rode a bus to Horseshoe bay.  It had pink sand.
Then we took a bus back to the ship.

We met a really nice couple from England on the cruise.
It was fun to find ourselves on the same ferry with Lorraine and Ken.

The Bermuda Triangle, also known as the Devil's Triangle, is a loosely defined region in the western part of the North Atlantic Ocean where a number of aircraft and ships are said to have disappeared under mysterious circumstances. Most reputable sources dismiss the idea that there is any mystery.[1][2][3]

The vicinity of the Bermuda Triangle is amongst the most heavily traveled shipping lanes in the world, with ships frequently crossing through it for ports in the Americas, Europe and the Caribbean islands. Cruise ships and pleasure craft regularly sail through the region, and commercial and private aircraft routinely fly over it.

Popular culture has attributed various disappearances to the paranormalor activity by extraterrestrial beings. Documented evidence indicates that a significant percentage of the incidents were spurious, inaccurately reported, or embellished by later authors.

Notice the pink sand!!

Back to the ship.

Time to say goodby to the waiters and the cruise staff.  They were wonderful.
We especially got close to Valentino, our waiter.

This is our group of cruisers!!  We had a lot of fun together.

We arrived in Fort Lauderdale on November 18th.  We had one more adventure as we visited the Everglades Park and saw crocodiles and alligators.

Our amazing trip had come to an end.  It was time to fly back to Salt Lake City on November 19th.
It was 3 days before Thanksgiving.  That will be a story for the next post.
