A visit to Granada: Day 1

We went on an overnight trip to Granada this week.  It is a beautiful town with a lot of history. Here is some information that I found about Granada: Granada is a city in western Nicaragua and the capital of the Granada Department. With an estimated population of 110,326 (2003), it is Nicaragua's fifth most populous city. Granada is historically one of Nicaragua's most important cities, economically and politically. It has a rich colonial heritage, seen in its architecture and structure.
Granada was founded in 1524 by Francisco Hernández de Córdoba, ostensibly the first European city in mainland America. Unlike other cities that claim the same distinction, the city of Granada was not only the settlement of the conquest, but also a city registered in official records of the Crown of Aragon, and the Kingdom of Castile in Spain.

After a little bit of a struggle, we found our hotel.

It was charming and beautiful.

The boys were intrigued with this giant chess set.  They think they need one at their house.

After checking in, we decided to go see the town.  This is an old cannon.
We noticed right away that there were horse carts available to take us on a tour of the city.
We decided that would be a good idea for us and hopped in a couple of them to take us around the town. It was a lot of fun and we saw a lot more than we would have walking and our drivers told us about the buildings and the things that we saw.

Logan even got to help drive their team of horses for awhile.
At the end of the tour, they dropped us off at La Claraboya restaurant.  We decided to go inside and eat.  It was delicious and pretty inexpensive.
Camryn had a shrimp pasta dish.  mmmmmm
Kristi and I had a delicious Chicken Cordon Bleu
Jeremy had some beef medallions.  We all loved it.
Well, the boys didn't love their fancy food but it wasn't because it wasn't delicious, because it was.
We went for another little walk after having lunch and met this sweet lady who loved Logan.  We have found that everyone here loves Logan.  They are really drawn to his blond hair and blue eyes.  Everywhere we go, they ruffle up his hair and want to have their picture taken with him.
This cute, little lady just wanted to hug him and pat his cheeks!!1

And then it was back to the hotel for a swim.
And then the girls had to go on a little shopping trip downtown.

Day 1 in Granada was fun and interesting!!
